Day One: Discover Sultanahmet
Begin your Istanbul adventure in Sultanahmet, the city’s historic heart. Start at Hagia Sophia, where Byzantine mosaics and Ottoman details reflect centuries of history. Just across the square, visit the Blue Mosque and admire its elegant domes, minarets, and beautiful interior tiles. Remember that it remains an active place of worship, so modest clothing is recommended.
After lunch, explore the Basilica Cistern, an atmospheric underground landmark supported by hundreds of columns. Finish the afternoon at Topkapi Palace, once home to Ottoman sultans. Allow plenty of time for the courtyards, imperial rooms, and panoramic views over the Bosphorus.
Day Two: Markets, Mosques, and the Bosphorus
Start with breakfast near the Grand Bazaar, then wander through its colorful lanes filled with carpets, ceramics, jewelry, and spices. Continue to the Spice Bazaar for Turkish delight, dried fruit, and fragrant teas. From there, walk toward the Süleymaniye Mosque, a peaceful hilltop complex offering some of the city’s finest views.
In the afternoon, take a Bosphorus cruise. Seeing Istanbul from the water reveals the striking contrast between European and Asian shores, historic palaces, and lively neighborhoods. A sunset sailing is especially memorable, but daytime cruises are excellent for photography.
Day Three: Modern Istanbul and Local Flavor
Spend your final day exploring the European side beyond the old city. Walk along İstiklal Avenue, browse its shops and galleries, and ride the historic red tram. Visit Galata Tower for sweeping city views, then enjoy lunch in nearby Karaköy, known for cafés and creative restaurants.
End your trip on the Asian side in Kadıköy. Explore the food market, sample fresh seafood or street food, and stroll along the waterfront in Moda. This relaxed neighborhood offers a wonderful final taste of Istanbul’s everyday rhythm, warm hospitality, and delicious cuisine.
